We got to do a quick interview with Chris Akinyemi, which you all saw featured on our blog last week. Read that post for a quick introduction to mister Akinyemi. Off to the questions!
What got you into the music industry? Who or what was your inspiration?
My love for music, all types of it, got me into the industry. My inspiration is my life, the pain; struggle, happiness and I feel like I have a story to tell the world.
In this digital age with artists coming from YouTube or auditioning for a variety of reality TV shows, what would you say are the biggest challenges in making a breakthrough?
I think getting exposure is much easier than it was 5 years ago, but it has also caused an influx of artists (good and bad) to get recognition, the biggest challenge is to get people to listen to what you have to say.
Many people have said you have a refreshingly unique sound, but what our readers would like to know is who are your greatest musical influences?
My influences range from John Mayer, Fela Kuti, Corinne Bailey Rae, Seal to Craig David.
So many names in the game, veterans and newcomers… who would you like to work with and why? Feature in a rapper’s chorus or collaborate with another artist closer to your own style?
I would love to work with Kanye West; I think he’s very creative and innovative. John Mayer is another artist I won’t mind being in the studio with.
Would you like to go on tour in your future career? If so, where would you want to perform?
I’d love to tour the world, but specifically the USA and the UK, I love experiencing other peoples cultures.
What’s the most played song on your iPod? I’m guessing it’s not on radio?
John Mayer’s “Belief” off of his “Continuum” album, it’s so groovy, I love it!
(Crunkzilla: Ha! That’s in my top 10 on my iPod, nice!)
Your single ‘Radio’ tells us you feel disappointed about today’s commercial music on the radio. How do you plan on changing the game?
By fusing a little bit of old school with new school to create a fresh, new sound.
Would you agree with Nas, do you think “Hip-Hop is Dead”?
Nope not at all, I think hip-hop is very much alive. Artists like Jay-Z, Kanye, Kid Cudi and B.o.B are keeping it going.
Where do you see yourself in the future? Rocking live shows or playing subtly in the living room? Haha.
It’s almost every musician’s dream to rock out live shows, I would definitely want to see myself on the big stage.
Do you play any other instruments besides your guitar?
I started playing drums before I played the guitar, but I also play the piano and bass.
You throw a dinner party. You get to invite 3 guests from any time in history, from Abe Lincoln to Einstein, who would you invite and why?
I would invite Jimi Hendrix, Michael Jackson and Elvis and ask them what they think about the state of music today.
Thanks for the interview Chris!
Everyone keep an eye out for this guy.. first EP Autumn dropping this Fall!

Kid Future is a young Hip Hop artist from Port Saint Lucie, Florida better known as “Loose County.” At a young age, Future was already being exposed to music to those of The Fugees, The Notorious B.I.G., Nas and many other mid 90’s/ early 2000 era artists. With an appeal to modern era listeners as well as for the original Hip Hop listeners, Kid Future is almost promised a spot among the top new Hip Hop artists for years to come.
I can guarantee to you that after listening to his mixtape, you’ll only wonder what’s next. It’s called “The 5th Day Mixtape”, a 10-song project which he completed in a matter of 5 days, releasing it on that 5th day, covering Diddy-Dirty Money, Travie McCoy, Juelz Santana, & more. You’ve probably heard this thousands of times before, but when I say you won’t be disappointed…YOU WON’T BE DISAPPOINTED
Did I forget to mention that he’s just starting his Senior year in High School? Well after a listen to this 29 minute mixtape, you won’t believe it.
The “5th Day Mixtape” is actually his 2nd project, after “The Prototype”, which debuted at #8 on DatPiff just HOURS after its release.
This kid seriously has some potential, dropping quality covers – 2 a day (!) – at 17. Let’s wait and see what happens when he gets some original productions!
